Roads, Rail, Airports, and the Broken Window Theory

I was sent a great article today, written by former Michigan State Senator David Honigman.  He suggests that, much like buildings that ignored with windows that are broken, our transportation system is sending negative signals about how we truly feel about the possibility of our economic turnaround.

It’s a great read and one that gets you thinking.

We’re hearing alot about President Obama’s stimulus plan that will provide funds for a number of infrastructure projects throughout the country.  And while it’s good to have that coming to the nation’s roadways, it is startling to notice that not a lot of it is coming to support transit.  Only $9billion of the entire package.

Granted, it sounds strange to complain that transit is only getting $9 billion without sounding a lot like Dr. Evil - but if we’re going to improve the nation’s transporation system, one would think we’d play all the cards we have avaiable to us.
